On April 30, 2024, Open Doors Canada had the opportunity to travel to Ottawa for our 2024 World Watch List Special Presentation.
This is an event we anticipate eagerly every year, and we were so grateful for all the supporters who took time to invite their Members of Parliament to join us. Despite having to postpone the event from its original date, it was still a success.
With the presentation on Tuesday morning, the ODC team took the opportunity to visit a local church on Monday evening as part of our North Korea: Never Abandoned tour.
On April 29, we had a wonderful evening at Kemptville Pentecostal Church, about 20 minutes outside of Ottawa. Over 50 attendees came out to hear stories and pray for our persecuted family in North Korea. We were particularly encouraged to see so many young people there!
On the morning of April 30, we got ready and prepared the room for the presentation.
We had nearly a dozen MPs or MP representatives join the event.
As always in Parliament, this is just one day in a hectic week. Due to some scheduling changes, we had some MPs who wished to attend but were unable to do so; and others whose schedules unexpectedly aligned and allowed them to attend. We appreciated the effort of one MP who was unable to attend the event but showed up afterwards to connect and gather resources.
All told, we had over 20 attendees and nearly a dozen MPs in attendance or represented.
The Hon. John McKay
MP Kelly Block
Following the presentation, we were invited to meet with Hon. John McKay at his office where we enjoyed the chance for connecting and further conversation.
We are so grateful to all parliamentarians and their assistants who made time in their very busy schedules to come out and hear the latest World Watch research and hear stories of believers experiencing persecution and discrimination because of their faith in Jesus.
We want to express our gratitude to MP Kelly Block and Hon. John McKay for sponsoring this event once again.
Thank you to all our supporters who sent emails and post cards and made phone calls to invite their Members of Parliament. Thank you for praying for this event!
We are encouraged year after year that our Parliamentarians are concerned by the plight of persecuted Christians and are committed to promoting Freedom of Religion and Belief around the world.
