Bombings in Southern Philippines haven’t ceased
Over the past six months, from January to June, there have been 6 different bombing incidents in the southern Philippines. The local people are terrified for their lives and believers don’t know how to respond, except in prayer.
While these attacks have not specifically targeted Christians, our brothers and sisters in the region are asking for prayer. So as you read about the violence they have faced in the past six months, pray a blessing of peace and healing over each situation.
A child was killed, and six others were injured when a bomb exploded on a public bus near Cotabato City in the conflict-torn southern Philippines on January 11, 2022.
On April 24, 2022, six people were injured yet again by a bomb explosion aboard a vehicle on the roadside near Dipolog City in the southern Philippines.
In the afternoon of May 26, 2022, an explosion occurred again on a bus travelling near the intersection of Aquino Street and Gensan Drive in Koronadal City, South Cotabato Province. According to unconfirmed reports, the explosion was caused by an IED, which injured at least one person.
Two people were injured after two powerful explosions once again rocked Basilan Province just after 5 p.m. on May 30, 2022. The first explosion was reported at 5:33 p.m. in the Jollibee parking lot. Minutes later, another explosion ripped through the D’Biel Bus Transportation garage, injuring two people.
Authorities in Lamitan, Basilan Province, are likely to tighten security following an explosion again near Lamitan City Hall on the evening of June 20, 2022. The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device, but no one was hurt. Checkpoints have been set up throughout the city by the police.
While no group has claimed responsibility, the Islamic State-affiliated Jihadi militant group Abu Sayyaf Group, and the communist armed wing New People’s Army are known to be active in Mindanao and have staged bombings there. It is also said to be the result of the election that took place on May 9, 2022.
