In yet another attack on the church in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, at least 15 Christians were killed during their morning service. The believers were surprised during the service when militants from the extremist group Allied Democratic Forces stormed the church on February 5.
At least 15 people have been confirmed dead, though the death toll is likely to increase.
Among the dead is the church’s pastor, Alphonse Mumbere (37) who leaves behind three children and his wife, pregnant with their fourth.
This incident comes only days after a different attack on a church service that saw multiple people killed, including that pastor and his family. The increasing violence has sadly pushed some Christians in the area to return to traditional religious beliefs in an effort to escape persecution.
Said another nearby church leader, Kambale Aristotle, “The (progress of) God’s word is suffering because people think God is not going to act, that’s why your prayer is of very paramount importance. Your beloved prayer is very important to strengthen Christians…we have faith that you will pray for us.”
Pray
Please pray for peace in the hearts of the Persecuted Church in this region of the DRC.
Ask the Lord to comfort families who mourn.
Pray that this attack will not lead to the closing of the church but rather strengthen the faith of Christians going through this very difficult time.
