**Trigger warning: Suicide
Chongya, a 16-yr old believer in Bangladesh took his own life this week because of persecution.
He and his brother were raised as Buddhists, but heard the gospel through their grandparents. When their parents found out, they tried to force the boys back to their Buddhist roots. When they refused, they were scolded and punished, culminating in being kicked out of their home. Shortly after, Chongya committed suicide.
Our partner went to the village to conduct a funeral service. He reports that Singya, the elder brother, is with his grandparents, dealing with the trauma of his brother’s death. The parents are fearful of being arrested.
Christians in Bangladesh often face persecution, and it is particularly difficult for those like Chongya and Singya who are dependent on their parents for a home. Open Doors seeks to help persecuted youth through discipleship and counseling programs.
Would you pray?
1) Pray that God will comfort Singya and keep him safe from thoughts of doing the same as his brother.
2) Pray that his grandparents will have wisdom on how to care for him.
3) Pray for the church in Bangledesh, and for our partners there: for strength, hope, and courage as they stand alongside youth like Chongya and Singya.
